Powerboat Cruising
Basic Powerboat Cruising, Inland Cruising & Night Operations Endorsement
This 5-day Cruising Course (M-F days, No Overnights) includes – Basic Powerboating Cruising, Inshore Powerboat Cruising and Night Operations Endorsement, and combines classroom and on-the-water skill testing which will be conducted on a Sabre 36 Express, which meets and exceeds the minimum length of boat required for certification.
The course runs from Monday through Friday but is NOT an overnight course. The boat will return to dock at the end of each day. The schedule for the Night Ops portion will be determined by the instructor based on weather conditions throughout the week.
Course Module Overview
Basic Powerboat Cruising
Responsibly operate a powered cruising vessel during daylight hours within sight of land in light to moderate wind and sea conditions.
Classroom topics and on-the-water instruction includes:

- Docking and Close-Quarters Maneuvering
- Navigation (Piloting)
- Navigation Rule (International Inland)
- Boat Control in Open Water
- Anchoring
- Emergency Procedures
- Securing a Boat

Inshore Powerboat Cruising
Responsibly operate a cruising powerboat within sight of land for multiple days in unfamiliar waters.
Classroom topics and on-the-water instruction includes:
- Preparation
- Operations and Skills
- Docking and Mooring
- Navigation and Piloting
- Emergency Procedures
- Securing a Boat
- Boat Control in Open Water
Night Operations Endorsement
Responsibly operate a cruising powerboat at night within sight of land.
Classroom topics and on-the-water instruction includes:
- Identify hazards to navigation and operation relevant for night operation.
- Brief crew on night operation, safety and procedures.
- Check functioning of navigation lights and flashlights.
- Prepare a float plan.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how on-board lighting affects night vision.
- Identify other vessel traffic.
- Identify Aids to Navigation.
- Perform a simulated person in the water rescue.
- Demonstrate the ability to leave or enter a harbor.
Upon completion of these Basic, Inshore Powerboat Cruising and Night Ops courses qualifies the student to apply for their International Proficiency Certificate (IPC) through US Sailing / Powerboating. https://shop.ussailing.org/international-proficiency-certificate.html.
Cost: $2,875.00 Per Student
A minimum of 3 students, and no more than 4 per class.
