U.S. Coast Guard Limited Masters License (also known as USCG Launch Operator License)

The U.S. Coast Guard requires all launch operators to be licensed. 

The Launch Operator’s License comes in two versions – uninspected or inspected vessels. To drive certified (inspected) launches, typical of most yacht clubs, the holder must have the “Inspected Operator’s License.” 

The renewable license allows you to work at any yacht club or marina and is good for five (5) years. The holder may operate up to 1/2 mile from shore. 

Limited Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) License: 

The OUPV License—often known as the “Six-pack” license—allows the operation of uninspected passenger vessels carrying up to six passengers. 

USCG Approved Limited Master (Launch Tender) License

The Limited Master license may be issued to applicants to be employed by a marina, yacht club, formal camp, or educational institution, allowing the licensed person to operate an inspected launch in a limited area.

Inspected launches will have a Certificate of Inspection (COI) stating the number of passengers (more than 6) and area of operation.
